La Villette is situated in the 19th arrondissement of the French capital. This park in Paris is multi-disciplinary and includes green open spaces, Cite des Sciences, a brand new concert hall and oval shape cinema.
It is a huge Parisian park of 55 hectares with 33 hectares of green spaces and gardens. This open air multi-disciplinary space was open to the public in 1974 on the former Parisian slaughter house…
You can do many things at la Villette : you can visit the Cite des Sciences and learn all about Sciences and stuffs. Or you can go and see a movie in the open air cinema (or at La Geode, which is really great !). Plus, You can go to the theatre, see a dance show. Or maybe an art exhibition underneath the Grande Halle de la Villette will suit you 🙂 You can also attend a concert at the new Philarmonie, designed by French architect, Jean Nouvel.
Each year, music festivals are put together at la Villette, like the Villette Sonique or the Jazz a la Villette. These festivals are gathering thousands of music lovers from all over the world. 🙂
Lately, in the summer of 2017, you can even swim at la Villette with the opening of a new bassin on the Ourque Canal. La Villette is turning into an urban beach ! So take your swimming costume, your tan lotion and a good book: and get beach ready! 🙂
Ideated by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi, La Villette is also composed of 26 “Folies”, little red pavilions situated all over the park. If you are feeling outdoorsy, the canal de l’Ourque is crossing the park and is a nice place to stroll about. You can watch the boats go by or have a picnic on the canal banks, like so many Parisians do 🙂
