Arènes de Lutèce

"Rise. Rise." Commodus

This is a picture of les arênes de luteces, which is a really nice place to visit in Paris.

The arenas of Lutetia, built in the first century, are a Gallo-Roman amphitheater. These arenas include both a stage for theatrical performances and an arena for the gladiatorial fights and other games of the amphitheater.

Basically, Lutetia was the name of the city of Paris at the time of the Romans.

So if you liked the film Gladiator or the TV series Spartacus you can revive these moments here 🙂

This is a picture of les arênes de luteces, which is a really nice place to visit in Paris. And people are sitting, mainly couples.

For the anecdote, there has not been many lions in this arena. For they came from Africa to the port of Alesia (cf Marseilles) and generally fought there. So there was not much going back to Lutèce 🙁

But I imagine there were such interesting fights. And theaters too!

For the historic part, there is a large stone plaque which explains all the details of construction, incident, and others that arrived in this place.

This is a picture of les arênes de luteces, which is a really nice place to visit in Paris. And there are not a lot of people on the photograph.

You can also bring a lunch, or something to eat. And why not try to play at petanque balls or a game of Molki (in order to do that, you need to make friends with the guys that play here or to bring your own material). Those are the specialties there. Yes, the balls replaced the tigers !
